    PEN-Y-WERN N.249 - Ram of the Year 1980BREED DESCRIPTION

The Clun Forest Sheep can best be described as Alert and Vigorous in appearance.

A clean open dark-brown face, free from speckles, the top of the head nicely covered with wool, whilst also being free from dark wool. Eyes bold and bright. Ears not too long, free from speckles and carried high.

The body has a strong muscular neck carried high from fine shoulders, lengthy broad back, deep rib, strong loin, good hock, deep and well rounded thighs, goof through the heart, with strong bone standing square on its legs.

Legs should be free form speckles and fairly free from wool down from the hock and knee.

WOOL
The wool is fine with an average fleece weight of 2 ½ - 3 kg with a staple length of 6 – 10 cm.

The main uses of the Clun fleece are fine hosiery, felts, knitting wool and futons. 

MEAT
The meat is generally lean, dark and flavoursome.
